In the historical heart of Naples, the three floors of the 19th-century Palazzo Donnaregina house the MADRE · museo d’arte contemporanea Donnaregina: 7.200 m2 of exhibition spaces, with site-specific installations, works from the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.
The building, which takes its name from the Swabian Monastery of Santa Maria Donnaregina (13th century) was restored and converted to a museum in 2005 to the designs by the Portuguese architect Alvaro Siza Veira in 2005. Today it offers to its public a library, a mediatheque and a bookshop/cafeteria alongside the permanent and temporary exhibitions.
